Welcome to Sanford Golf Club

Thanks for downloading my second course release, Sanford G.C. Sanford is a big contrast to my first course, Rattlesnake Point G.C. Sanford Golf Club is set in Sanford, North Carolina, amongst the large sand hills and tall pines. Sanford G.C. is visually intimidating with large waste areas and huge mounds. But don't let that fool you. I find Sanford to be very playable. Length is not a factor here. The course plays 6550 yards from the back tees. I think everyone can play from these tees. Fairways are very wide, but again, don't let it fool you. Being on the correct side of the fairway is almost as important as keeping it out of the weed covered sand hills. Fairways are also undulating and can give some bad bounces time to time. But hey. That's golf. I really enjoyed making the greens at Sanford G.C. Rattlesnake Point had a lot of ridges and bumps in the greens where as Sanford has large, swooping breaks. Greens should be easy to read but hard to putt on. They will really test your putting skills.

Sanford G.C was inspired by my trip to Pinehurst, N.C. where I played Mike Starntz's Tobacco Road. This is the same type setting and I have two holes inspired by Tobacco Road. The routing of the two courses is the same but that's all.

Hole Tips:

Hole 1- Par 5 (558 yards)
The tee shot is tougher than it looks. There is a lot of space to the right but then the second shot will be blind over the sand hills. A tee shot down the left (though that brings in the waste bunker on the left) will be rewarded with an unobstructed second shot where a slight fade is needed. Don't be in the two front grass bunkers!

Hole 13- Par 5 (583 yards)
This hole is inspired by the 13th at Tobacco Road. I tee shot from high upon the sand hills is to a wide fairway. Anything in the two waste bunkers is no good. The second is to the next landing area ( you need guts to go for this in two) and calls for a 6 iron or so. Your third will be with a pitching wedge to a long, thin green behind the two mounds covered with weeds. Yes a blind shot and maybe unfair but really fun to play!

Hole 16- Par 4 (326 yards)
A short, tough hole. Tee shot looks like there is no fairway to hit but, there is. A drive over the left sand hills can easily land in a large fairway that is very undulating. Second shot is uphill to a green perched high upon the sand hills. A run up shot is risky as anything too short will run back down a good 20 yards. Greens isn't too tough.

Hole 18- Par 4 (432 yards)
Inspired by the 18th at Tobacco Road. Any tee shot over the quarry is good. Don't be in the grass bunkers left of green!!
